I can do hard things

Sometimes, we are just supposed to get out of our comfort zone, and do things that scare us. We as human being resist change as much as possible. We are comfortable where we are, and seek security in a routine, and like knowing how things go and how things work. Ironically, when we get caught up in the day-to-day, and just want to do the bare minimum, we are neglecting some of the best parts we have as human beings.  This week in my class, I was tasked with building a website people can buy things on. Doing this sounded dreadful to me honestly. The reality is though, that it was not that bad, and I was able to do it with ease. Why is that? Because I decided to put one foot forward, and not get so caught up on how this might be so overwhelming. Sometimes we are able to get hard things done when we go one step at a time.  What will you do this week to get out of your comfort zone?

Profit vs Nonprofits

When it comes to creating a website, it never hurts to look at other websites along the same line as to what you are thinking of running your business as. It would be the best thing possible to find what works for other current websites that are up to date and to go from there by finding out what works best. This does not mean to copy other websites, but that means to get inspiration.  I also think that learning about the different types of e-commerce websites was also very enlightening this week, and learning about the differences therein. I think that a lot of it is similar to the way businesses and nonprofits are similar and different.  All in all, it was a productive week in learning about different kinds of businesses.

The means to the end

When running a business, the operation side is all about being practical. It is all about the way that we get our product out to the consumers, and it is all about how it can be most cost-effective, keep our margins, but also be timely to get it to the customer. It was really interesting to study affiliate marketing as opposed to drop shipping and to find out what method is more cost-effective and convenient. I enjoyed comparing apples to apples, and coming up with which one would be better for the online business.  I also liked finding different wholesalers to go through, and it is interesting what goes into the process of deciding which supplier to go through. It is a big deal who your supplier is because it will determine the quality, the experience, and the kind of company that you run.  This week I learned a few new ways to find out how to go with the right supplier.
