No comfort in the growth zone
This week we pondered a lot about the intricacies of what makes one successful. Is success a formula? are there indeed certain attributes and circumstances that contributes to one's success? There are certain attributes that you can attribute directly to success, but which one can you say is THE attribute that will bring the most success? Well, there is much debate on this. Some say that hard work is the mindset you have to have to be successful, or in other words, grit. Others say that talent, or skill is what reaps the most success, and that without the necessary skills or talents, success is no more than a mere pipe dream. And then there are some that say success is a matter of chance, or luck. Here's the thing: It can be any. The thing I pondered on this week is that success is most likely through hard work, and learning through failure.
Success, true success, that is earned through diligence and hard work. Success comes from overcoming over obstacles. Success comes from learning from failures. Success comes from growth. That growth comes from coming out of the comfort zone. On my two year LDS mission, a wise woman would always say, "there is no growth in the comfort zone, and there is no comfort in the growth zone." These words have really touched me, and I remember them often as I continue my journey on this earth. I know that we are truly on this earth to experience growth, and that it isn't always comfortable.
Successful people know that challenges and discomfort should not be avoided, but should be embraced. Successful people have a can do attitude. Successful people know that a lot of things in life are a state of mind.
Ultimately, the thing that sets successful people apart from the rest is their attitude when it comes to moving forward. They let their trials refine them, not define them.
